Saturday Ride-Out
Ride-Out to Loclside Café, Grindley Brook – Saturday, 12th April 2025
Seven riders gathered at the Boat Museum yesterday before embarking on a scenic journey to Grindley Brook Café. Opting for a more picturesque route, Dave Malam led the way, with Steve Barnes taking position as tail-end rider. The winding roads and stunning scenery made for an unforgettable ride, but the real adventure began when the daisy chain broke.
As I waited for Steve, we followed his lead down a lane that could only be described as resembling Aintree Racecourse—horse muck everywhere! Then, in true steeplechase fashion, Steve disappeared over a bridge that felt like tackling “The Chair” before hitting “Beecher’s Brook,” where he was sent flying out of the saddle. Not wanting to be left out, I followed suit!
After some impromptu equestrian-inspired riding, we finally regrouped with the others at the café, where Hayfever Dave (Dave Blair) arrived—fresh from his anti-histamines—bringing our total to eight riders. A big thanks to everyone for making the ride such a memorable one, and to Steven “Jockey” Barnes for demonstrating how a modern classic can keep up with an adventure bike!

Motorcycle Ride to The Old Piggery Café – 29th March 2025
A fantastic group of 16 motorcyclists gathered at the Ellesmere Port Boat Museum at 10 a.m. for a scenic ride to The Old Piggery Café. For some, this was their first time joining one of our rides, adding to the excitement. The weather was dry and cool, with a hint of sunshine—perfect riding conditions.
To ensure a smooth journey, the group split into two. David Malam led the first group through the Cheshire countryside, weaving along a mix of picturesque A and B roads. Highlights of the route included Stanford Bridge, Beeston, Wrenbury, and Aston, before heading toward Whitchurch. Meanwhile, Steve Barnes led the second group on a more direct route, sticking mainly to A roads.
In a delightful twist of timing, David’s group joined the Whitchurch Road just as Steve’s group passed by. This allowed everyone to merge seamlessly and arrive together at the café, creating a great sense of unity.
The café, though bustling, managed to accommodate everyone. The food and service were excellent, with the staff doing a stellar job of welcoming 16 hungry riders without prior notice. Kudos to the young team for their friendly and efficient service!
After a satisfying meal, some members headed to J&S in Northwich, where Carol picked up a new pair of motorcycle gloves and the group enjoyed more tea and camaraderie. Others chose to head home.
All in all, it was a brilliant ride with scenic routes, a great café stop, and fantastic company. Looking forward to the next adventure!
Ride-Out to Dan’s Café, Whitchurch
The first ride-out of March took place on Saturday, 1st March, under perfect conditions for a motorcycle adventure. The weather was very dry, with a slight chill and bright sunshine, creating an ideal atmosphere for the journey.
The Journey
Thirteen club members gathered at the Boat Museum in Ellesmere Port to set out for a late breakfast at Dan’s Café in Whitchurch. Led by Steve Barnes, the group embarked on the ride, following a well-planned route:
- M53 to Littleton: A smooth start on the motorway.
- A51 towards Tarporley: A stretch of scenic countryside roads.
- A49 to Whitchurch: The final leg leading to the destination.
The route offered a great combination of enjoyable roads and picturesque landscapes, making the journey as delightful as the destination.
Arrival at Dan’s Café
Upon arrival, the riders found the café bustling with activity, which required most of the group to wait briefly for seating. However, the short wait was worth it, as the group was served a delicious breakfast by friendly and attentive staff. The meal was not only satisfying but also reasonably priced—a win for all!
The only downside was the lack of on-site toilet facilities, requiring a quick visit to the Tesco across the road for relief. Despite this minor inconvenience, spirits remained high.
Reflections
The ride-out was a resounding success, with:
- Great weather enhancing the experience.
- A well-organized route ensuring that no one got lost.
- An enjoyable meal capping off the adventure.
Overall, it was a memorable start to the ride-outs of March, leaving everyone looking forward to the next adventure.
